Seizure "Breakthroughs"

Sat, 08/05/2017 - 18:36
Hello everyone. I'm new to epilepsy.com but I'm definitely not new to having seizures. When I was 11 years old I had my first seizure. I'm now 22 and I've been seizure free for about 3 years. However I've always had what I used to call "tremors" or "auras." Recently due to health insurance, they made me try another generic medicine and having been seizure free for 3 months, it really messed me up. I was having these breakthroughs multiple times during the day, I hadn't been able to go to work, and I've been miserable. I'm now back on my brand name medication but that doesn't change the fact that I'll probably have more of these breakthroughs. I just figured out that these breakthroughs are actually mini seizures. I've went to the doctor having these issues on 3 or 4 occasions and they act like this is all normal. I'm just curious if anyone else has had these breakthroughs and if there is any relief from these things.

Hey! I'm 22 also :) I have auras multiple times a day sometimes. But mine are just like really funny feelings in my head that I can't explain well. It's a temporal lobe thing apparently. What are your auras like??

Hi! I know how you feel. I

Hi! I know how you feel. I was on Topamax for about 2 years. I titrated up to 550mgs and was still having breakthrough seizures. The side effects were HORRIBLE for me. I had to cut my work schedule down to weekends only and couldn't make it through a 4 hour shift and was so depressed I had to switch meds. I would take environmental triggers into account. Are you sensitive to caffeine? or fluorescent lights? Good Luck!   Monica Lynn
