Seeking Information

Sun, 11/19/2006 - 20:32
I have been dating a man now for almost a month, and he has told me that he has epilepsy. I know the basic information about epilepsy and all the precautions and safety measures to take, but I would like more information such as Can a Healthy woman and an Epileptic Male have a healthy child togeather ? Any other information would be appreciative. Thank you.

The short answer is yes. There is no reason to believe that you can have a healthy child. Even when it's a woman on AED's, there is about a 90% chance of having a normal child. I'm not sure if any studies have been done for males, but I would the success rate is just as high if not higher. As most women are advised, make sure you are taking folic acid and take care of yourself as you normally would. Good luck with the relationship.
