Scariest Night of my Family's life

Fri, 12/15/2006 - 21:51
Yesterday, I had a doctor's appointment. My husband and my daughter both had to work and I can't drive due to E, so I decided to walk. It wasn't very far, and a straight shot, so I thought the risks were fairly low. On the other hand, rescheduling with my neuro could be three months out, and my sz have gotten worse and worse over the past two years, so I wanted to go. I probably start having seizures during the visit, as I do not remember seeing the doc at all, but do remember seeing his nurse and getting vitals and what not. My neurologist apparently did not recognize my strange behavior and sent me on my way. I stepped out of the building and went left when I should have gone right. Four hours later, after dark, and five miles from my house, a stranger saw that I was in trouble and called the police. The police was already looking for me, as my family had called them hours before. I have no memory of the event. I can only imagine what my family went through as they drove up and down every street, trying to find me. I can't stand what I do to them. I can't stand what these stupid seizures do to all of us. Meds won't help. My doc can't even tell when I'm seizing. And they wonder why Epilepsy coinsides with depression....duh! I am so thankful to the nice man that took the time to check things out and call 911. But I must have past more than 10,000 people before I got to him. I must have had several seizures on the way, and have the bruises to prove to me they were big ones. Why did it take four hours? Why did it take five miles? I hope you all never have to experience what my family had to go through. I hope you all have or get control over your E, and don't let it control you! And I hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a Joyess Season! Thanks for listening (reading!). CaraDee

Chris W. Thank God for that man and that throughout all you went thru, despite bumps and brusies, sounds like you were OK. I would look for a new Nuero. Next time, take a Taxi or have a friend take you to the Dr. visit. I can't drive either, and I when my wife can't take me to the Dr. (do to work or what ever) I depend on friends. At first I felt like a leach doing it until they started yelling at me for not calling them for rides when they saw me walking to and from places. They are there for you far more than you know. God bless, take care, and MERRY CHRISTMAS!
