Scared to sleep

Fri, 08/10/2007 - 12:44
So lately I have been afraid to sleep because I have seizures when I sleep and also when I wake up. So going to sleep means seizures. I also am so tired I want to sleep all day but I know as soon as I fall asleep or wake up I will have some sort of seizures. Does anyone else have this problem??? How do you handle it? Cause I am tired!!! Samantha

I have the same problem, I am due a bad day soon it's every 3-4 weeks and it's been over 3 weeks 4 weeks on Monday so any day, I've not wanted to go to sleep all week and I've cried a few times trying to stay awake all night but I've got a 2 month old son and 2 older kids so I need some sleep for.school runs and bottles and I can't stay awake and can't remember falling a sleep to wake up for a bottle feed a few hours later to,feeling my normal self but I'm scared to go to sleep tonight scared if I wake up and have a partial seizure then that'll be it for the day but scared if I have a full on seizure after having a partial seizure. I seriously don't know what to do it might sound daft but I'm trying to enjoy the days that I'm ok and fine knowing there was that chance of a bad day and a trip to the hospital coming round with paramedics asking all the questions and gasping for breath as fast as I can.

hi sam, i hate to go to sleep for that very reason. my epi spec gave me soe diazapam 5mg which helps calm the brain waves since mine go 24 hours a day and it has helped me get a restful night with out t/cs. not every night but enough, plus it has a calming effect. its the same drug as valuim. so you are more relaxed because i would sometimes get anxiety attacks about having to go to bed. so talk to your neuro cuz it works. mine did it cusz lack of sleep just increases my seizures. and i have started having a lot of day time t/cs when they use to be only during sleep. much safer during sleep. just ask the side of my head lol take care sweetie! banffgirl

Hi banff, It's not that I don't want to sleep or my body doesn't want me to sleep it's that I am terrifed if I sleep and nobody is around then something awful could happen. Last time I fell asleep with nobody around my husband found me blue laying on our bed I was holding my breath and had passed out. Is this pill your talking about just to put your mind to rest and not think so much about it?? Doc says that I need to stop thinking so far into it. But who really wants to go through that... how can you not think of that right?? Thanks for the info and take care. ~*Samantha*~
