Running with headlamps

Sun, 11/01/2015 - 11:17

Hi-

I've recently started training for my first half-marathon. We're up to about 8 miles, and I'm feeling great. However, my program wants us all to use headlamps for our early morning runs during the winter. I'm very concerned about doing this. I have temporal lobe epilepsy and have been seizure-free for almost 5 years on lamictal xr. I take it like clockwork, and I feel blessed. I am scared a headlamp could induce the type of seizures I previously had at concerts before I knew I was epileptic.

Has anyone had experience running with a headlamp that's either good or bad? I would appreciate any stories/experience you're willing to share.

Thanks, Kate

Do you know what triggers

Do you know what triggers your seizures? I can't stand the lamps that some fellow cyclists have that create a strobe light but I've never had any problem with a steady light. With that light, you are trying to see where you are running and also trying to be seen. In order to be seen, be sure you wear bright and reflective clothing but I'd suggest you use the light and not use a strobe.
