Recommended Working Hours for an Epileptic?

Tue, 08/23/2016 - 14:11
I am 36, and have been diagnosed epileptic since I was 15. As of right now, I work a full-time desk job, 40 hours per week, and have done so most of my adult life. My wife and I just had our first child a year ago, and things are financially a little strapped, and I have tossed around the idea of getting a 15-20 hour per week second job, but having not done that previously, I am not sure what impact this would have on my epilepsy. I am on Keppra, and already have trouble sleeping regularly, and had a seizure four months ago, and my medication level is stable according to my most recent blood work. Does anyone else have any experience with something like this? What are the recommendations as far as working hours for epileptics able to work outside the home? Thanks for any help you can offer!

OK I was part owner of a small business so I do know about working hours that are not 40 a week. We owned a maintenance and supply business. The supply part was in one city  and the maintenance part was in another city. Maintenance had certain contracts so the hours were fewer but constant every night works in offices cleaning them and making sure they were the desks and everything was like it shoukd be when the office was open the next morning. The weekend was when I did the outside work. Mowing the grass and trimming the hedge and trees. Total time was about 110-12 hours a week. Every 2 months We cleaned the banks carpets which was done at night on Saturday. All night job. The supply was tricky. Office and warehouse manager. If the sales rep needed assistance I gave it. If a company purchasing product needed assistance on how to use th product We demonstrated how to use it. There were times we assisted them to make sure th product was put down right and that meant at times most of the night or the next weekend day. So it can be done but it does take planning. I generally got about 4=6 hours sleep. I rarely had a seizure. But then I have been working and waking up around 430-5 in the morning since about 1963I hope this helpsJoe
