Recoil time post-seizure

Sat, 11/05/2016 - 22:11
I have trouble of the concentration and multitasking sort for awhile after grand mal seizures. Does anyone else? Lousy at typing and texting, have to use one computer screen instead of three, less articulate since I forget names of things. This goes away but is a downright pain in the ass for the duration. What happens to your brain to cause this or am I imaging it? Thanks for your comments Kate

it is called post ictal time. Oh and yes it does happen but not to grand mal seizures alone. It took 15-45 minutes to get all the way back to normal after having a focal seizure which was in todays types a partial  seizure. So for a period of time I had problems using my right hand and focusing on the problem I was to fix took longer. To show you what it is like in your seizure take a set of dominoes and stack them all up and tap one. Tap one hits the next which hits the next. The chain reaction stops when they are all down. That tap you did was the start of your seizure. That last domino falling was the end of your  seizure. Now the time it takes to stack them all up again is your post ictal or time to get back to normal time. In other words your brain has to rewire itself. Kind of like your computer when it slows down you scan it. Your files are sent to different areas and your mind is moving them back into the place those files should be in.

Even when I am awake and can

Even when I am awake and can pretty much make sense, I generally totally forget 24 hours. After awhile, I usually cannot remember about 2 weeks of my time. I only have 1 grand mal seizure at a time and rarely. However, we think I made an error on my medication and recently had 5 grand mal seizures in a row. I am pretty much missing about 6 weeks except a few things. 3 months later I pretty much have my ability to remember all vocabulary to talk. I still have difficulty with math-even simple math.
