Questions about sex and medication

Hello, I'm still awaiting from results from my EEG, but my doctor strongly feels I'm having seizures (hallucinations, mood swings, memory lapses, joint and muscle pain, weight gain). I have lots and lots of questions, because I think my doctor is right. Unless I have some sort of serious neurological condition (god forbid), I will probably get diagnosed with epilepsy. So I feel really silly for asking this, but is it normal for epilepsy to kill your sex drive? If you take meds, can you get it back? I haven't really wanted it in months. I am very blessed with a husband who is very understanding, but it really bothers me. I've tried to force myself to want it, but he can tell and then it's no fun for either of us. I've also gained a lot of weight--30 pounds. I picked up 8 of those in just a week so I'm not exactly feeling attractive. I've heard (and seen firsthand with pheno and a dog who had epilepsy) that drugs can make one gain weight and get sleepy. Are there some meds that don't do that? I'm also worried about having a baby, and heard that meds can make that difficult. Is that true?

I must be an anomaly as I can't find anything online that supports my experience. My sex drive has increased off the charts. My wife, god bless her, tries to keep pace, but can't. I think about it all day long; it's as if I was thirteen again (I'm 42). I'm newly back on Dilantin after having my second seizure recently; fourteen years ago I had my first. I've always been pretty sensitive to Dilantin. Almost all of the side effects hit me pretty hard--with one exception, mercifully! Any explanations, or should I just be happy with this?

Hi Auburn, I brought this up with my neuro too. Dilantin killed my sex drive and made me lethargic. 'Not unusual', she allowed. But after she switched me over to Lamictal, not only did my energy level rebound, but my libido soared. Don't know if L is OK during prenancy, but it might help you get that way! Keep smilin'- cc

Hi ladies, I have had petit mal siezures all my life and had surgery 5 years ago and have been siezure free :). However, I'm still on tegretol and yes, my sex drive is almost null. I always bring it up to my doctor and she just shrugs it off. I always thought it was me but now think it is the medication. I will be going off meds totally in one year and pray to god that this is the reason. I'm glad to read others with this problem!
