Questions?

I am just curious about a few things. My story is kind of long. But to cut it kind of short i will say i have recently started having seizures again after 10 years of not having them. I was told by my neurologist that he strongly believed i had epilepsy but he never told me what type. I know he told me my eeg showed spikes in it that showed seizure activity. I know my seizures are considered tonic clonic. And i am normally confused after. I was also told that i have spots of scar tissue in my brain that resemble scar tissue from a tramatic head injury. I suppose it never occured to me to ask for an actual name of the type i have. I am currently on 3000 mgs of keppra. It has slowed the seizures a lot but i have still had a few. But i am also within a few days of starting this dosage. I was told if i had more seizures after the medicine i would be placed in the hospital for a week long eeg. I jw if there was anything else anyone could tell me about any of it. Not really anything specific anything would help.

If you know you have tonic

If you know you have tonic clonic seizures you might be having other types without knowing it. Grand mal seizures are generalized tonic clonic. which means you can have any of the generalized seizures. My diagnosis was back in 64 and was Grand Mal, Petite Mal and Focal motor Epilepsy. I had had one grand mal seizure. I had been written up for day dreaming in class for over a year. I had weird feeling in my right hand. Well those daydreams and weird feelings were absence and focal seizures. Meaning you can have more then one type of seizure. Different types of epilepsy back then. Today they are specialized so you have the different types of epilepsy and type of seizures. You could be having absence seizures which you don't realize since they can last a second or longer. My seizures today are a few seconds long. They are focal since they affect my right hand. It feels numb or weird. I can have one without anybody knowing I had it.Now if you have not gotten to the dosage the neurologist wants you on then you have been seeing the medication is working because of the reduction of your seizures. If you are increasing the dosage then that increase could stop the rest of your seizures. Oh and Keppra works on all kinds of seizures.I hope this helps and you get seizure freeJoe

I have gone long periods

I have gone long periods without seizures and then start having auras and signs that seizures are on the way. I always ask myself what is different? What changed about my life that could have had an effect on my head. There is almost always an outside influence that contributes. Good luck, take care of yourself, it makes a difference.
