Question about my epilepsy

Sat, 09/16/2006 - 20:16
Well, my seizures occur within 30 minutes of waking up. I am currently on Carbatrol but I don't think it is quite effective. I lose consciousness and I have been told that my body jerks and I become stiff. Does anyone know a kind of drug I can take, I will be going to the doctor in 2 wks and would like to suggest to my doctor some new drugs that works and can control my seizures. Thanks!

There are so many factors that go into choosing the right drug. It's often helpful to ask the doctor for a list of drugs that may be okay for your type of seizures, then go thru the pros and cons of each one in relation to your specific situation. Take a look at the med section here at www.epilepsy.com/epilepsy/seizure_medicine.html Good luck! Epi_help

Hi, Do you have any warning signs that a seizure is going to happen? Or does it just happen and catch you off guard? Do you have a good dictionary? Yea it sounds funny, but if your body gives any warning at all, look up the word "biofeedback." If you get even a few minutes warning you may be able to either lessen the severity of the seizure or possibly delay it from happening. You cannot stop it from happening, but there are things you can do. Really. No kidding. But this only works if you receive warning signs. Good luck. keep positive thoughts. And ask your MD every question you can. wflisa

I usually have the feeling of "pins and needles" when a seizure is about to occur. If I neglect that my seizure will occur within 2-3 minutes. If I sit down my seizures will be delayed. I could instantly know if I will have a seizure not when I wake up. PS: Are there any drugs that have a good success rate for awakening Grand mals?
