question

Hello, I was wondering if there is anyone on here or someone who can refer me to someone/where that can help my husband and I. My first grand mal happened when I was 18. I had only a history of petit mals when I was younger and they had gone away when I was 13. I had an additional grand when I was 20. During these times I would go on medication and go off. After 5 yrs of being off of medication and not having any seizures I have one in Jan of 06 in front of my now husband and his son. With this we started trying to find the right med for me. In Aug of 06 another one happened...so we increase the meds....Nov 06 another one....increase the meds. All of these - from the beginning- were all triggered by alcohol - not extreme drinking..but enough to kick in a seizure. After thinking we had everything under control, the right med dosage, no drinking, keeping stress down I have another one in Jan of this year completely out of the blue. Here is where I am looking for help. My husband is scared. Really scared. He gets nervous when we go out - even to the grocery store (thats where the last one happened)I have been to my neurologist, passed my eeg's, increased the meds and havent had any of the slightest of issues. But in turn I can see where he would be scared. So what I am wondering is if there is anyone on here that can help me help him? Or any other alternative? Thank you for any and all input you may have Leigh Ann

I really recommend looking for a psychologist who can help your husband and yourself. There are many psychologists who specialize in people with chronic illnesses, and such a psychologist may be especially well suited to speaking to your husband's fear. Your husband might want to talk to a psychologist alone or you could both go to the sessions. Whatever feels best is probably the best place to start.
