Prescribed more meds, still have auras

Tue, 10/27/2015 - 12:03
Hi, I've been on leave from work. I have had a complex-partial seizure, one or two every two weeks. I google to see if anyone else has this, to find results with dogs who have epilepsy. Since the end of September, my neurologist increased my carbamazephine CR prescription from 200mg in morning and 400mg at night to 400mg in morning and 400mg at night. He also prescribed Clobazam 5mg morning and night, on days I have my period. This clobazam was prescribed to me in August (before the increase in carbamazephine), before my MRI, because I suggested my period may be an effect. My period began on the 22nd of Sept and 20th of October. My seizures and auras in Sept: Sept 4 seizure Sept 11 aura Sept 16 aura end of Sept, more carbamazephine prescribed My seizures and auras in Oct: Oct 16 aura Oct 26 aura in morning, seizure in evening (where I'm told I repeated the words, "Oh no!") Should I be concerned about auras, should a case worker decide I'll go back to work soon? Should I be just as concerned with auras as I am with seizures? My neurologist thinks living with 5 people may cause stress. While I appreciate his opinion, is it valid? I think what is more important is to know facts, like my blood level with carbamazephine. It was 0.3; he would like it at 0.5 I still have yet to hear about the blood test, completed a few weeks ago. Thank you.

The number of auras and seizures have gone down so the medications are doing their jobs. It takes some time to get the theraputic levels set to stop all seizures. All an aura is is a seizure itself. It can be considered a warning of a larger seizure to many people. As for the neurologist and his statement. Don't put it aside since stress is a trigger to many people. Also if he wants the levels to be 05 then by all means he needs to get them there. By doing that he may reach levels that can stop all seizures and auras. When I took blood tests for levels in meds I didn't get the information until I went to the next visit. In your visits please keep asking questions and be sure your neurologist answers them. The way I have gotten my seizures reduced and medications that shortens the length of time in them was to keep asking questions.
