Please Help - Complex Partial Seizures

Wed, 09/12/2007 - 03:06
I have been diagnosed with Complex Partial Seizures but unless I am with someone I am not aware that I am having a seizure. I am on my own for the vast majority of the time and am now paranoid as to whether I am having them or not Most of the postings seems to indicate that everyone experiences an aura prior to a seizure, yet I experience nothing. I am totally frustrated as to whether I am having seizures or not and do not know what to do, can someone please help me. Many thanks

Hey there I was diagnosed with the same thing and I don't have aura's either, I was diagnosed about a year ago and was totally unaware I was having seisures - epilepsy to me was something that was not subtle but violent shaking like on TV. It is frustrating but I guess we have to put our faith in the professionals - how did you become aware that there was potentially something going on in your head? Were there particualar circumstances that made you visit your doctor? My "seisures" are nothing more than my attention switching off, very much like a day dream. I'm never sure whether I have had one even if someone is a round as I could have just been day dreaming. I can say I haven't really given the medication a chance as I was drinking and not really looking after myself, mainly as I half didn't, maybe still don't beleive it's E, but have made the desicion to change this. Perhaps by doing this I will notice a change in myself that means the reasons I visited my GP in the first place get better or some other areas of my personality I haven't even noticed come to the surface that I like. It's easy for this to become overwhelming (I find it so often) but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Not everyone experiences

Not everyone experiences auras (which are actually simple partials that come immediately before complex partials or generalized seizures). Even if one does have auras they don't always continue. I had them when I was a child but they stopped when I became an adult. Here is some info: Auras: http://www.epilepsy.com/epilepsy/auras.html Complex Partial Seizures: http://www.epilepsy.com/epilepsy/seizure_complexpartial.html Epilepsy Info Site Map: http://www.epilepsy.com/sitemap/map_main_epilepsy.html Like you I spend much of my time alone, but most of the time (unless immobile) I'd know if I'd seized via altered circumstances.. like discovering myself in a different room. hope that helps & best wishes, ~sol

some times i get auras that are just a quick dizzyness, other times its like you are in a fog. there are times i dont have any auras. it gets confusing sometimes since you dont know whats real and what isnt. with complex you sometimes are aware and sometimes arent depending on how bad the seizure is. i know this doesnt help much but i suggest you read up on all about seizures on this site. good luck, banffgirl
