PLEASE HELP

I felt odd yesterday. I just doubled up on my lamictal, and even though it'd been helping I was feeling very pre-ictal yesterday. I was having small absence seizures, and the occasional myoclonic jerk. They were all mild. I attributed it to stress, I've been overdrawn on my account, and I needed a paycheck desperately. Anyways, last night I was exhausted by the time I went to bed. I took all my medications as prescribed, and crashed into what I thought was a peaceful nights sleep. I awoke to what I thought was a knocking on my door. Then something confusing happened. I went in and out of dreams. I was dreaming, but I thought I was doing what I was dreaming. Then I dreamt I had a violent seizure. Then I woke up confused, then I drifted back to sleep. It was almost like when I have what I've dubbed walking seizures when I walk around kind of disoriented, and then don't remember anything. Anyways, this morning I woke up, and I felt SICK to my stomach. I was also exhausted. Then I hopped out of bed, and I realizethat my back was KILLING me. I have sciatica, on and off, but it's been good lately. It all stems from an injury about four years ago. As long as I take precautions when I work out, it hasn't bothered me in some time. Then I noticed a weird smell...and I realized that I'd probably lost control of my bladder in my sleep. Now, I had a pad on because I'm a girl and it's that time of the month (sorry if that's tmi), so it didn't soak through to the mattress, but the sheets smelled a bit like urine. It had of course pretty much dried. Can you have a seizure in your sleep and not wake up? Or possibly wake up disoriented and not really put two and two together until the next morning? It was really strange, I kept thinking I'd looked at the clock, but each time I looked it seemed like time had gone backwards or to far forwards. It was just weird. I'm going to work today, on crutches, with a stupid backbrace. What I wish I had was an excuse. I'm not going to walk in and be like "hey, yeah I had a seizure, how are you?" I've had a really rough week in general, so people already think that I'm a whiner. I'm not, I just had a bad week. I've gotten a lot of suggestions that I've been exaggerating. People don't realize that I'm not, and I hate it. I know I'm going to get jerked around, today, and I hate it. So one...seizures in your sleep? Two...how do you deal with people who question if you're really THAT sick all the time? Three...how do you explain to your employer that you're okay to work, you just might come in kind of banged up for a bit until they sort out your medications. And lastly, has anyone else experienced nasty side effects from the seizures like sprained ligaments, muscle pulls, etc? My muscles tend to contract very hard during my bad seizures, which I hardly ever have that I know of unless I'm having them in my sleep...It's not like I violently shake all over, sometimes, but not usually. Usually it's just like being electrocuted and I can't unclench any of my muscles. Thanks, Achy-breaky me

Achy breaky: From your tale, it seems to me you had a seizure. I know incontinency (sp?) (bladder control loss) is a symptom of seizure. I have had four seizures while sleeping and one while awake. I would not have known about them except for my wife telling me I had them. I basically wake up about 15 minutes after the seizure feeling out of it and kind of like I have a bad hang over. The odd thing was that it has been on nights were I haven't drank anything. My neurologist always asks me if I urinate while seizing which I have always said no. However, he seems interested by that and I have never asked him why. I would suggest talking to your neurologist about it. As far as the aches and pains. I get the same thing. I am in pretty good shape where I run 15-50 miles a week depending on the time of the year and lift weights. It don't matter though the muscles still feel like I had worked them out hard. I hope this helps. Craig M.

It sounds to me like you had a sz while asleep. I get simple partials and have had them while sleeping. The other night I had one in my dream. I stayed home from work today because I've been having them all day. after I have one, I feel very tired and get a headache. Are you more likely to have seizures during your time of month? That's happened to me, although today I'm exactly mid-way between periods. I'm wondering if hormones play a part. I never lost control of my bowels thankfully, even when I had my tonic clonics in '04 and '05. I would call my neurologist about what happened. Maybe your meds need to be changed or tweaked. I didn't even stop and think about my cycle, I'm just finishing it. DUUUH that probably had something to do with it. Plus I'm off hormonally because my pill is out of whack, and the seizure med I'm on is decreased by hormonal changes while on the pill...
