dear all, I had epilepsy for 11 years, simple partial complex, I had an absence seizure. I know so much about my disease because I'm a doctor too. I wanted to be a doctor because I know I had a disease. I'm very interest to learn about epilepsy. I have some problem about this E,not for the seizure, this only a simple seizure. But the problem is for the people around me. I live in Indonesia, the people here don't know much about E,they thought E are just the same like fool, stupid etc. My parents also know about E after I explained to them about that, but what I really dislike is they too much over protected to me!They treat me like a child, even they know I am 29 and I'm a doctor. And people around me, when they saw me in seizure they just ask and can't accept that a doctor can sick. After that they-my parents and people- didn't treat me like a normal human. And it's make me down and stress, and when I'm stress it can be a trigger for my seizure. That's just like a devil's circle to me. Are there someone can help me?

Hi! Glad you wrote in about this. There are so many people with seizures working as doctors, nurses etc. I'm one. And they/we have many of the same issues that everyone else has. Other people's reactions are the toughest - negative perceptions of epilepsy can change perceptions of being seen as able and credible. Look around- you'll run into others with similar situations. Try reading the Brainstorms Healer series and read other's stories! Welcome and thanks for sharing! Epi_help

arlin prananingrum, First, Epilepsy is not a disease. Epilepsy is a condition. Second, don't worry what others think. If you are a freak to them, be a freak. Years ago some guys told my friend I was a PUMPKIN BRAIN. My friend wanted me to go with him a kick their A****. I told him, "If I go and fight them I will have to fight millions of dumba** americans just like them." People in the USA are not educated about E. They are educated on sex diseases, some types of cancer, and addictions. The only ones who might know about E are some family members and close friends. They know what the signs are for you going into a seizure. Lastly, is it not better to be over protected than under protected? How would you feel if know care what happened to you? You are 29 and and have two parents, not to many years from now the over protection is going to take it's circle. You parents will need you to take care of them. This is also teaching you. In the future if you have children you can choose the teaching of your parents. You can either be over protective or loosen the ropes. So spin the stress, look at as being lucky you have people who really care about you. Good Luck, E_Loner
