OMG----Are my worst fears here?

Fri, 10/27/2006 - 12:27
Last night I was talking with my 9 year old daughter. Just general conversation. She asked me " Moma, have you ever had funny feelings like you had been somewhere before or can see into the future"? She says she has been feeling these weird feelings off and on. They don;t last long. A second or two. Now she is just beginning puberty, I believe. I had these same type "feelings" when I was little. I never told anyone and now 20 years later I know it was seizures. Oh My God, could it be? I know they CAN be inherited. Have Idone this to her? I can not stand to see her go through what we as adults have to go through with these horrible things. I am supposed to leave Sunday for a week in the hospital for Video EEG. I don't know what to do.

Oh Gosh, you didnt do anything to her! Please dont say that! Also I come from a family with inherited seizures. My moms cousin had epilepsy. Mine was from a sickness, but my sister has it, and so does her daughter. My children do not. Go get your V-EEG done. Just make sure someone knows what is going on with her. Make appts before you leave, or have someone else do it. But you need to be taken care of just as much as her. But if you dont get help, you will not be able to help your daughter. Hang in there and you and your daughter will get through this. Best of luck to you Lisa http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/epilepsyapproach/

Hi Wendy,,,,i am just going through a similar experience with my son,,,he just recently started informing us what has been going on with him (he is almost 14 now) he says that everything kinds of fades out on him to black and then fades back in,,only lasting a few seconds or so,,,sometimes worse than others,,,i was fortunate enough to actually see one,,,so i promptuly (sp) made a drs. appt. with family dr. who ordered a eeg,,,came back with adnormal spikes,,,, a sleep eeg has been ordered for january ...but since i first talked with my son,,he informed me that this has been going on for about 5-8 months now,,,i have been reasearhing everthing i can,,,reading everything i can,,,not finding much (god i am so lously at using the internet) But i have come to the conclusion that i have three boys,,,ages 21, 19 and zach the one i am talking about who is almost 14,, all the boys are similar in looks,,,but that is where it ends,,,they are so vastly different in personalities it is amazing,,you would think that the two older ones were raised in different homes..honest,,,the middle one is in his first year of college the oldest one is just drifting through high school...no ryhme no reason,,,, I have come to accept that if zach has epilepsly ,,,i did not do this to my son ,,it just is....it is not something i would chose for my son, or anyone for that matter,,but at least as a parent with epilepsly i will have the ability to understand him better and his needs. He has been my swim buddy, biking buddy and my buddy on the epilepsy Walk now for three years running,,so he is more aware than alot of kids,,,he knows that there is not so much limitations but more so adjustments (grin) And in regards to your Video EEg is there anyone who can stay with her while you are gone for the week?? Someone who knows you and will know what to watch for in case something happens? Just make sure it is someone you are comfortable with.

Hi Wendy, Yes, please... do

Hi Wendy, Yes, please... do NOT blame yourself! I'd (respectfully) advise you get your daughter checked out as it sounds like a possible partial seizure. The AEDs have advanced considerably and; in the event they are needed, always remember 75% gain 'complete' control. (I didn't see your note initailly so you might want to read the website posted below) Plus, today operations for partial E are common and FAR less risky than decades ago. Yes, you should go for your VEEG, just be sure your daughter is watched (which I'm sure you will) If you must play the parent-first role (as we all do :)) then, rationalize it this way: you are being a 'great example' to her on how to take care of herself, heath wise.) (= always be as positive as you can, and live for today :) ) Hi Heather, Re: Zach Try reading http://www.epilepsy.com/epilepsy/seizure_simplepartial.html & look under psychic seizures. Zach is lucky to have you & know I wish you both well. ~sol PS.. Heather, if you ever want me to search anything out for you, just send me a message. I'd be happy to help. :)
