Nocturnal seizures

Tue, 06/14/2016 - 14:34
Hello everyone, I am new to this. I was diagnosed with nocturnal seizures when i was in 4th grade. They happen in my sleep, my muscles tense up and i wake up in gaze for few seconds and cont to sleep. They would usually last about 20sec. I was seen by neurologist who did sleep deprived EEG which was positive and MRI was normal and i Rx depakote then weaned off of it when i was in 6th grade. No seizures for couple years. Then started middle school and started playing sports and they started back up, and i was started on Tegretol. When i started high school i was staying up late studying, played several sports, wasnt getting much rest and had another seizure in my sleep. I was then Rx Tegretol XR, which i took til age 31, and then i was switched to Keppra when i was planning on having a baby in 2014. Was working great, my son was born in july 2015. But i noticed it isnt working so well now. Starting at the beginning of this year, i feel extremely tired and have had a few seizures in my sleep since then. Im seeing a new neurologist who is doing full workup 5 day EEG and MRI. He also states that the Keppra i was taking was made by a not so good company which is affecting my therapeutic levels. I did as well switch pharmacies in January. I was not aware of the importance of the pharmaceutical company making the medicine. The company that was making it was Lupin Pharmac, and was the Brand keppra. Has anyone else experienced this???

I haven't with Keppra but with other generic forms of medications, yes. All the time. If you can figure out what the brand was the seemed to work the best for you, tell your doctor that they need to write that in the script, i.e. "Pharma Company" Brand medically necessary. Then your pharmacy HAS to order that for you. You shouldn't have to figure out which pharmacy carries it, that can be a huge pain in the butt. Most of the time they won't even tell you which they carry.
