New Here

Hi, I am new here and am looking for advice. I had been seizure free for 16 years until last Thursday. My doctor had told me a couple of years ago that I was not taking enough Dilantin to make a difference (100 mg BID). I have gone several days without my meds before and been fine...until last week.I had missed my meds for about 5 days and had a seizure in the middle of the night and then another the next morning. I know I sound so irresponsible, but I honestly thought I had grown out of this. As I previously said, it had been 16 years since my last seizure, I was on Phenobarb at the time and was trying to decrease it because I was so sleepy. My question is, do I tell my doctor??? If I do, I am afraid I will lose my driver's license, but it was my doctor who thought I wasn't taking enough meds to make a difference. I am so scared that I will have another seizure. So I feel like I need to get a level done. I have an eight year old and I am scared to be alone with her. I have been taking Dilantin for about 10 years and have been on this same dose. I just don't know what to do. Any advice would be great. Thanks

I'm sorry you are going through this. If I were you and in your shoes, I would talk to the doctor and be honest with him. Best to lose your license than your daughter in an accident. I say this as a mother myself. It isn't easy losing your license (even temporarily) but I would much rather not drive than risk harming my child. Plus, once your body has re-adjusted to the medication your doctor can help you re-obtain your license. My doctor has been great about that. Good luck to you. I wish you and your family the very best!

Hi Pam Marty here from michigan Sorry to hear about your bad luck. I've been through the license thing and driving while the chance of a sez just isn't worth it. I had three MVA while having a sez before I wised up. I do drive but very rare. Tell your doctor is the best thing Good luck......m
