New to epilepsy
Sat, 08/29/2015 - 21:49In October I will be 44 years old. A year and 1/2 ago I had my first seizure. It was a grand mal and it happened the night I found out I was very unexpectedly pregnant. I had a total of 4 seizures during my pregnancy. Two while I was awake and two while I was asleep. I was sure that I had eclampsia due to the pregnancy and that I was through with seizures but last week I had another seizure after 11 months of not having any!! I am so confused why I am suddenly having seizures. There is no history of seizures in my family, I have never had one in my life until a year and 1/2 ago and I had every kind of test you can imagine and nothing showed up to explain why I had seizures. I am so frustrated. I can't help but wonder if my seizures could be from hormones. Any help or advice would be appreciated.....

A person of any age at any time can have epilepsy. The seizures you had when pregnant were caused by something other than what cause a epileptic. seizure. In most cases epilepsy does not run in the family. You said you had every kind of test run on you. Did they run a EEG? Which is a brain wave test. Or an MRI of the brain? The reason I asked those 2 tests is that they are the 2 main tests used to diagnose epilepsy or test for it.The EEG will show them the electrical activity coming from your brain. he MRI will show anything wrong or on it that shouldn't be there. Things like abnormal growths, scar tissue a growth deformation. What they find will help them make their diagnosis. There are many different medications out today that can control seizures. Just like medications that help keep the heart beat at certain rates. hope this helpsJoe
