New to epilepsy

In October I will be 44 years old.  A year and 1/2 ago I had my first seizure. It was a grand mal and it happened the night I found out I was very unexpectedly pregnant. I had a total of 4 seizures during my pregnancy. Two while I was awake and two while I was asleep. I was sure that I had eclampsia due to the pregnancy and that I was through with seizures but last week I had another seizure after 11 months of not having any!! I am so confused why I am suddenly having seizures. There is no history of seizures in my family, I have never had one in my life until a year and 1/2 ago and I had every kind of test you can imagine and nothing showed up to explain why I had seizures. I am so frustrated. I  can't help but wonder if my seizures could be from hormones. Any help or advice would be appreciated.....

A person of any age at any

A person of any age at any time can have epilepsy. The seizures you had when pregnant were caused by something other than what cause a epileptic. seizure. In most cases epilepsy does not run in the family. You said you had every kind of test run on you. Did they run a EEG? Which is a brain wave test. Or an MRI of the brain? The reason I asked those 2 tests is that they are the 2 main tests used to diagnose epilepsy or test for it.The EEG will show them the electrical activity coming from your brain. he MRI will show anything wrong or on it that shouldn't be there. Things like abnormal growths, scar tissue a growth deformation. What they find will help them make their diagnosis. There are many different medications out today that can control seizures. Just like medications that help keep the heart beat at certain rates. hope this helpsJoe

Have you, by chance, suffered

Have you, by chance, suffered any head trauma (concussions?) in your life and are you familiar with petitel mal seizures? The reason I ask is because 14 yrs ago I had my first "known" Grand Mal while 3 months pregnant. Upon learning more about epilepsy I realized I have had petite mal seizures (visions w/aura) all my life but I was young and didn't know what the seizures were and assumed everyone had them. Thanks to an MRI I learned I have scar tissue in the area of my brain where there is heavy firing, most likely caused from a major concussion I suffered at 5 yrs old. Mind you, I had multiple MRIs before a Neoro Surgeon actually spotted the scar tissue. Regardless of the source, my Neurologist said anyone who suffers more than 2 seizures with no underlying cause has epilepsy. You definately need treatment from a Neurologist for your health and safety. Best Wishes!!!
