I've just been diagnosed with temporal lobe epilepsy. I have been put on keppra twice a day. to tell the truth i'm totally overwhelmed by the situation. i don't know what to do other than take the medication and hope that the side effects aren't to bad. Right now the only side effect that i'm experiencing is fatigue and tiredness, but i swear sometimes i'm so tired i could cry. does anyone have any advise for someone who has be newly diagnosed.

It can be very overwhelming.

It can be very overwhelming. I try to accept that some days are good and some days are not. I do my best to have good days by making the small changes I can like getting to bed early, not drinking alcohol, taking a nap when I can. I am fortunate to work from home so some accommodations are easier for me than it might be for others. It takes time for your body to get used to a new medication. I have finally passed the point of feeling better on the med than before the med. Give yourself grace. I have accepted that I have a new normal that looks and feels different than my normal two years ago. That is okay.

That is a fantastic way to

That is a fantastic way to look at it. I think the issue is how scary it can be. The dangers of hurting your self while having a seizure, especially if you are alone. How do you cope with that if i may ask?>

It is heavy news. But it will

It is heavy news. But it will get better. I used to be resentful every time my son took his medication. Now I'm grateful when he takes it because it makes him feel better. Acceptance will come someday. You are entitled to your feelings! Accepting your new normal is a big step, whenever you are ready.
