Nervous about surgery

I am new to this site and desperately need advice.
I was diagnised with partial simple epilepsy in the temporal lobe about 4 years ago. The seizures happen every 3 weeks, approximately 8 at a time. The seizures are not too bad (petite mall), but it causes memory loss that is obviously very hard for me to handle.
I am on Lamictin and Trileptal and have moved the medication up several times, but have no effect on my seizures, it only makes me sick and hallucinate.
Now I am booked for surgery end November and I am extremely scared.
Have any of you had the surgery. Must I go to such extreme or rather just live with the epilepsy?

I had surgery because of my scar tissue in my head and I was nervous at first. After being in the Abbott hospital for 4 months with other people having the same done, it had made me feel better and more comfortable. I know that you will feel comfortable to.

I had scar tissue taken out 1988 to lead me to partial seizures then had a VNS put in on 2002.
