Need some advice on Complex Partial Seizures

Thu, 03/12/2015 - 15:08

I'm here to get more information about complex partial seizure, their triggers and how to avoid having them.

My fiancé is having, I believe, complex partial seizures.

I read some information about this kind if seizure and all of what I read, is identical to what she is experiencing.

When we started dating, she used to have a few a day. I did not know about it until I noticed something wrong with her and than she explained me what was going on.

We have found someone who had naturall healing abilities and he helped her in the way that the numbers of seizures decreased sagnificantly to may be 2 or 3 per week even longer.

But one night, she had a very bad seizure for more than 5 mins with something coming from her mouth, she was motionless and did not respond to anything I was doing. I tried to lift her, but she fall down. I even though that she died. I think she had secondary generalized seizure.

Then, we found a naturopathic doctor and she prescribed some epileptic medicine that helped even better by reducing seizures to may be 1 or 2 a month. At least, what I have noticed while we are together and iwhen seizures happen in front of me. But, then, I'm not sure what is going on when she is out of my sight.

Recently, may be 4 months ago, we noticed, that most of the seizures happen during night time and she has at least 3 or 4 seizures at night. I know that because every time it happens, I'm waking up due to her movements and some vocal sounds she produces. We noticed that seizures happened before her periods or during some flu symptoms or food poisoning, but recently she did not have anything for a months even before periods. But this month she started to have seizures after periods and she had about 5 seizures three nights in a row.

Does anyone can explain me what is going on and if there any suggestions of what we can do?

Thank you very much

I totally agree with

I totally agree with Mereloaded that a neurologist needs to be consulted.  I dealt with grand mals first then my main seizures where complex partial seizures.  Those complex partial seizures have been under control for the past 8 months with the following meds: vimpat, aptiom and trokendi xr.  Tell her to talk about these 3 drugs with the neurologist she gets.  There is no med out there i haven't used so to have a new beginning of being seizure free (after 15 years) i tell everybody to investigate these meds.  I have nothing against naturopatic md's cause actually my husband and i have begun using natural things but this maybe the direction she needs to go to get her seizures under control to get her life in order.  Start as soon as possible and if you find one that doesn't seem to help, keep it moving to you find one who does.  grace and peace.

I understand that many people

I understand that many people want to do things naturally. Wellllllllllllll there is more to seizures then natural. There are some things that can slow down certain things. However a seizure is caused by an electrical impulse going off wrong in the brain. Now can you keep the electrical impulse from going off wrong??? Natural medications can slow down the central nervious system but the impulses are still there and unless they can stop them then she can still have a seizure.. If she really wants to stop the seizures she needs to see a neurologist. The longer she waits the more frequent and stronger her seizures will be. I was diagnosed with grand mal, Petite Mal and Focal Motor epilepsy. Meaning I have had the strongest , the slightest  and many inbetween seizures. The only seizures I have had in the last 30 years are simple partial or focal seizures. With newer medications the seizures are shorter (a few seconds long) and less frequent. I used to have seizures that lasted 2-8 minutes and it took 15-45 minutes to get back to normal. Now those same seizures are seconds. I can have one while in a group and no one would know I had one.All of that is due to a neurologist (doctors) who have been taught and work with all kinds of things.  Doc and I have discussed many thngs and he does know about  natural medicines. he also knows that without some of the medications I use her seizures will not be controlled. I don't have anything against naturopathic doctors and I do like natural things. Hell I still used baking soda and water for an upset stomach. Vinegar and water to clean windows. For her safty and her health she does need to see a neurologist and get teh medications that can and do control her seizures. The sooner she starts th better off she willl be.

The seizures that happen in

The seizures that happen in relation to her periods are called Catamenial Seizures. Seizures at night are Nocturnal Seizures. //////  Neuropathic Treatment is not going to help too much. She does need to contact a Neurologist to: A. Figure out what is happening  B. Figure out the best route that can be taken to bring the seizures under control. /// The main element that stands out about a Complex Partial Seizure is a loss of consciousness= ( LOC) /// The (LOC) is not something that will knock her off her feet. The LOC is simply that her body is NOT functioning at its normal level of consciousness. She might not respond to a question or request and she might do a few unusual things while her consciousness is impaired. She might have little or no memory of the entire situation since memory is usually impaired to a degree. ( This can be different with different people ) or just differentiate due to the seizures intensity..The Biomedical Route ( Medication ) is working pretty well for me. Seizure activity is not stopped 100% but this activity is halted or minimalized b4 it can hit vital parts of the brain. Most people who know me never have a clue if and when a sz. is happening. I take medications on schedule and never miss a dose. As most people have suggested. Have her see a Neurologist.
