Hello, my name is Hannah, and I have a strange condition I'm not sure how to identify. My doctor did every test imaginable on me (even a 72 hour EEG!) but we still don't know the reason behind my seizures. I'm very scared at this time in my life, and have saught therapy to deal with it. My therapist suggested I reach out to other people suffering from seizures to maybe better understand my condition.

I'm happy to have found this forum, and I look forward to hearing from you all.

Welcome HannahMost of the people have not found an answer or explanation as to why they have seizures. All it takes to  diagnosis epilepsy is 2 seizures. All a seizure is is an electrical impulse going off wrong in the brain causing a chain reaction. You posted you have a strange condition. What condition??? You posted it is hard to identify. But you didn't post what it is. It is scary at this time in your life. What time is it in your life? You have seizures. If that is the issue fine. It might help you if you used the words SEIZURE and EPILEPSY. If you use them then it is a start to accepting your issue.I have been living and dealing with epilepsy for 50+ years. I had been having absence and partial seizures for over a year without knowing I was having them. Blips in time. A wierd feeling in my hand. Then I had a grand mal seizure. So I had seizures. Tests didn't show the cause or where the electrical impulse came from causing my seizures. What was I to do. There were no forums or computers. I had to go to the library to garner information. Doc did 20-25 different EEG's and nothing came up. So what was I to do other then accept the fact that I had a seizure issue or in other words EPILEPSY. Believe me it is easier to deal with today. Back in the 1960's people with epilepsy were being put in homes away from the public. In the 1970's there were some states that wouldn't let people with epilepsy get a marriage license..Technology has improved and advancements have been made in the medical field. Newer medication are better and safe. With fewer side effects. The seizures I have today are seconds long compared to the minutes they used to be 15-20 years ago. They are the same seizures but different medication.Amy Jo gave you a place to start. This site has a lot of information about types of seizures and types of epilepsy. The place to start is right here go to the LEARN section. Follow that with the GET HELP section

you did not say what kind of doctor yo uhad been with and without knowing if he was a neurologist specializing in epilepsy he may not know all that he needs to make diagnosises.  You posted about a therapist and theropy but not knowing what kind of treropist yo have doesn't help. My regular doctor diagmosised my epilepsy. It took neurologists to fimalize the diagnosis with testing. Blood cloys and do some damage to areas of the brain and that might be a cause. From what you have posted in this thread you could have psudo seizures AKA Psychogenic non-epileptic seizures (PNES) There is a web site for them and you might get some information there. The seizures some people have can land there..http://nationalseizuredisordersfoundation.org/pnes/   The foundation is working at getting neurologists specializing with epilepsy to help with these people too Check them out and please come back and let us know how things are going Joe
