Myoclonic Seizures

Tue, 06/09/2015 - 02:12

I've been a bit reluctant to use this forum to ask for help, because I realize my myoclonic seizures may seem trivial to most of you. However, gradually they have made it impossible for me to play tennis, and I am looking for suggestions. I was hoping Neurontin would help, because I take it for pain, but I have increased the dosage lately and not found it helpful. I have started and stopped taking Keppra (side-effect issues), but probably haven't taken a high enough dosage to control the seizures. I am also wondering about medical marijuana, although if I had to take it just before playing tennis, I'm guessing that would be a non-starter. My everyday seizures are usually more embarrassing than dangerous, but on the tennis court I have had brief losses of muscle control and micro blackouts that have left me bruised and cut up. If there's anyone out there who has these same issues, I'd love to hear from them.

Neurontin is also used for

Neurontin is also used for seizure control.  Adjunctive therapy in the treatment of partial onset seizures, with and without secondary generalization, in adults and pediatric patients 3 years and older with epilepsy. I took it for awhile. As for keppra how long did you take it and was the dosage raised after you started taking it. I ask because side effects do happen but they generally go away after the theraputic level the neurologist wants met. So if you took it for 2 months and still had seizures and the doctor raised the dosage then the theraputic levels were increased and that level needed to be increased again which takes another time period.Talk to your neurologist and discuss this issue with him. You might also tell him you have been using neurontin and what for.  There are many different medications for seizure control. I know I have used almost all of the medications you will see in a neurologists office. I have been living and dealing with epilepsy for 50+ years. I have been in drug studies for new medications for seizures. You will see this or that medication is for a certain type of seizure. That is only because the original study was for that type of seizure. The medications are then tested for other types of seizures or deos it work well coupled with this medication or that medication. The thing  I would do is call your neurologist ans ask. He might be able to prescribe a medication without setting up an appt.
