Myoclonic seizures

Thu, 08/31/2006 - 22:27
I am 28 year old female. I was diagnosed with myoclonic epilepsy when I was 16. I was put on zarontin and took it for a while. It didnt work at all and it made me tired. I went off of it and just dealt with my seizures. I still have them. I only have a second muscle jerk or twitch. It does bug me though because people may notice sometimes. I have been having them worse lately becuase I have been tired, and just lost my dad to cancer and started a new job. On the day of my dads funeral I was so stressed and exhausted I would have one seizure after another. It was annoying. I am thinking about going to a neurologist again to get it checked out again. I am kinda scared. I have alot of problems with fatigue and get run down easily. I go through stages where I have seizures more days than others. I was wondering if anyone else had these kind of seizures and what side effects you have with them. What meds you are on? I am worried that meds will cause bad side effects. I am currently taking prozac and lunesta for sleep. Prozac for my anxiety and fatigue. I am wondering if this is making my seizures worse? I am so aggervated!! Any info of any kind would be nice. Thanks

Hi I am sorry things are not going to great for you at the moment. If I was you, I would consider going back to your neuro and getting checked out. I have myoclonic jerks that only occur when I am tired. Last year I was put on Prozac by my old GP for deppression. As soon as my seizures started my new GP took me off it as it was thought to be making my seizures worse. This may be the case for you, this may be somthing worth discussing with your neuro if you decided to see one, or even your doctor. I really hope things get sorted for you soon take care Hayley xxx

Hi= I also have Myoclonic jerks and was put on Klonopin and Keppra along with an antidepressant. Stress and fatigue and low blood sugar are my triggers for seizures and I try to take the least amount of the meds I can to stay under control. I hope they find a good combo for you as they are annoying. Good Luck! Hugs Joan

Hi, I also suffer from myocloclic jerks. I find when I am tired they are worse. I take a combination of depakote, phenenobarbitol, dilantin, and ametryene(sp). While the combo helps, I know I will never be fully cured.
