My Story

Tue, 02/28/2017 - 15:13
I had a grand mal at 14, after it was known, it became obvious that I had had other episodes of seizures prior but this was the first fall out. I went on to have back to back seizures for six months. Had an EEG with epileptiform but never had a seizure while hooked up. Was on Lamictal. Had break through seizures so they upped my dose for about 2 years and eventually I was controlled. Had my last seizure in March 2009. Stayed on meds for 3 years afterwards and with neurologist approval, spent 6 months weaning off the meducation. I never had any side effects with lamictal. I also have chronic migraine, having had my first one at 12. They started getting worse about 18 months ago. I took magneisum and CoQ10 to prevent and basically was sedated using cyclobenzaprine, methocarbonal, and fleurocit. In January, I had a grand mal and realized I had been having myoclonic jerks and absentee seizures for at least 6 months. My neurologist put me on lamictal and I had a massive allergic reaction, hives everywhere and my throat swelled up, spent 5 days in the hospital. My neurologist switched me to Keppra and I absolutely hate it. The first dose was 1000mg IV and I turned into the hulk and couldn't sit still for anything. I have been on it 500mg twice a day but I either feel like I'm walking around in a fog, not a good thing for a nursing student and daycare worker, or I feel like I'm sitting on a dryer, just this energy running through me, humming under the skin. I don't have good motor control. I'm told it might go away after the first four weeks, but I can't function like this and have told my doctor as such. He says there was other medications, but I don’t know what. I don't know why it all started back up, although I have my suspicions.
