My Meds Effected My Annual Raise :(

Wed, 09/13/2017 - 17:18
I just had my annual evaluation at work today, and on the evaluation paperwork it actually says that I was docked points for an overall lower score and a much lower pay raise because I need occasional reminders to stay focused on a task because of my medication for my health condition. I'm currently taking Trokendi XR (topiramate), which I have been trying to convince my neuro to take me off of because I have had so many memory problems with it. It's like a mental fog swoops over me and there's no telling when it will come over me, how long it will last, or how bad it will be, but there's literally nothing I can do to get myself out of it. On top of that, I have absence seizures that the medicine doesn't control, where I flutter my eyes and roll them back. The medicine gives me bouts of insomnia, so on the days I don't sleep well, those mini seizures and other symptoms are amplified. My boss is an RN and she even said she knows it's out of my control, and she still docked the points from my evaluation. My seizures are definitely very well controlled with medicine (minus the flutters), so I don't think I would qualify as a disabled person, but someone told me that having my raise lowered because of the effects of my epilepsy medication is discriminatory under the Americans with Disabilities Act. I might also add that, ironically, the company I work for is a nonprofit company that provides resources for disabled people, and they hire people with disabilities in order to receive certain government grants, so it seems doubly strange to me that I was docked for this reason. What do you guys think?

If you are fluttering your eyes and they roll back that seizure is not an absence seizure. A person in an absence seizure looks like they are day dreaming. That person does lose time since in then they lose consciousness for the time I'm the seizure. Have you called your neurologist and told them about this issue. If not then do call and they may be able to write a letter about your change in medication and about how long it will take. That letter might help.Call the 24/7 help line and talk to them they have someone that can answer your questions. 1+800-332-1000

I agree with just Joe....and yea it doesn't sound like a absence seizure to me either.  You shouldn't have been docked on your review for that eaither.
