My epilepsy story

Thu, 01/26/2017 - 18:05
Oops, this is my first time on the forums and I do not know how the posting works. But here I go. Hello, I want to share my story on the epilepsy I'm currently suffering from. I am your average 26 years old male. First of all let me start with the very first one I had. It was about 5~6 years ago, I was driving with my girlfriend out of her apartment complex, then all of sudden I ran into a gas station light pole. Thank god nobody got hurt, but my girlfriend is very tiny and the airbag blew on her. From what I remember her saying was that I just stared blank at something while I was driving, didn't response to any of her words and it took about 7~10 seconds from me to running into that pole. At the end, I totaled that car and didn't realize I had a seizure and just thought that I passed/blacked out. The second seizure happened after a year ago again I was driving (this time by myself) and all of sudden I remember confused on that my airbag was blown and I was completely stopped. I had no memory of what just happened or realized that I got into a car accident. After the accident, I went to the hospital done some testing such as MRI, Ultrasound, and finally EEG. The doctor got back with me couple days later saying that they see seizures thru my EEG test. I was nervous and searched everything that relates to any seizures. So, from that on I saw the doctor and he have prescribed medicines that I never heard of. First it took time to get over all of the side effects that my medicine has given me, but I haven't had seizure so it was okay. 3~4 years later, I went to my native country in Asia for my wedding with the girl that used to be my girlfriend. I was suffering from lower back pain problems and decided to see the doctor for it. He took a MRI test of me and told me that I have a herniated disc in my lower spine. And he prescribed me their medicine (made with Chinese herbs) and told me that this wouldn't interfere with my health conditions with seizures. However, after we got married and I got back into the states, I had another episode of seizure. This time it wasn't something that I ever expected. I heard back from my apartment complex manager saying that if I had any incident with one of the other person in the drive way, and then I had a flashback of me going into someone's car. Manager told me that I tried to get into a car that I did not know of, and tried to steal their "biscuits." This may sound hilarious, but it all came back to me that I had some memory of it but I just let it go thinking I was daydreaming. I was afraid that I still don't remember how the guy in the car looked like, and that they called the cops on me but I explained my health conditions to the cops and everything was okay. I went into the doctor next morning and told her that I've been taking medicines I brought back from Asia for my back pain problems. She recommended me to get off it immediately. A month later, another episode of seizure happened. This was when my wife and I were had dinner and she offered if I wanted some fruits for desert. I don't remember her speaking these to me and in fact, she told me that I wanted "apple" but I do not have any memory of it. I was very scared so we went into the doctor's office again next day. They increased my dosage on the medicines I've been taking to see that would help at all. However, it did not help with the on going seizures. A month later, I was driving again (I shouldn't have driven) on my way to work and I was smoking cigarettes. It felt kind of awkward and realized that I have no memory of throwing the cigarette bud anywhere. As soon as I got to work, I looked below my seat and saw the cigarette. I was very scared and from that on I stopped driving. We went into the doctor next morning, and the doc has prescribed the double dosage of what I was taking originally. For the second opinion, my wife and I got in touch with different doctor and went to see her instead. She gave us variety of options that I can take but instead we decided to stay with the doubled dosage of medicine I've recently prescribed for. I told the new doc all of the stories I have gone thru with taking herbs for back pains and all of the episodes. From then on, I haven't had seizure for 4 months and I will be able to drive again in 2 months now. I'm still pretty scared and have very much of anxiety within me everyday every hour. I feel like when I do something, I'm afraid thinking that was that a seizure I just had or thinking is this the "deja vu" or is this the odor that I smell if I have another seizure kind of thing. I live everyday in fear that I might run into seizure because I know it cannot be curable, but controllable rather. My wife and I are planning on having a kid in near future, but I'm afraid seizure might come in place and will pass it to my loved ones. Thank you for reading this long story of myself.
