My Brain Likes to Rock and Roll!!!

Fri, 06/09/2006 - 13:58
Shocks in my head are the biggest part of my epilepsy but they seem to be the least talked about on these posts. I missed my morning dose of Topamax the other day and all day... bam, bam, bam!!!! I thought I was under attack inside my head. The scary part was I didn't realize I had missed my does until I got home to take my evening dose so I thought my medicine had quit working. On one hand I was relieved the medicine was working on the other hand I was freaked out that missing one dose could bring it on so strong. Is it just a small subset of the E community that gets these brain shocks? tingling, sensations, pulses? zaps? knocks? rattles? rock and rolls? sensations? flutters? clicking?, thunderstorms? taps? spasms? Whatever you call them. Weigh in if you don't mind please. Thanks.

SHOCKS - I can relate in a way. Different than yours tho. Sometimes I'll get a short excrutiating pinpoint pain in one of my temples, take your pick. It nearly staggers me but lasts under a minute I think, only occurs once at a time. But it's painful enough that's all it takes. But for me if I'm late taking my AEDs in the evening and I have been very screwed up for some reason since Daylight Savings and I don't remember having this problem in years before (however I remember so little don't go on that) I start my old familiar and hated - feeling like I'm an electrical power plant. That can manifest itself in several ways. My current new thing is it now starts with the bottom of both feet start huming. Strong feeling of vibrating until they're partially numb. If I can't get that stopped I start getting not pain, but like I've being statically shocked in, not in my calves, and if that doesn't stop it starts moving all over and I know, I'm soon to go over. Someone just started a thread about ringing ears? I've always had that off and on for a few minutes bilaterally but my husband isn't an E, he has that, so I felt like, still do, what I had was normal but what do I know about "normal". But the other night, maybe a week ago I had a LOUD ringing just as she described in one ear that lasted about 10 minutes. Since then I've had it several more times and added to that for extra entertainment is a feeling, not a sound of clicking. That's real pleasant too. But my main thing from the beginning and still now is I feel like an electrical power plant to some degree all the time and I detest it. If anyone rubs my upper arms or the top of my thighs I get sweaty it feels so awful. It's like they're cranking up my electricity body wide to an unbearable level no matter my AEDs or anything else. I had no idea how often people particularly come up and slide their hands up my upper arm and I have to stuff screaching it feels so awful. My poor husb. will jump at someone we run into who is reaching for my arm and shout DON'T TOUCH HER ARMS. Then he lets it drop and I always wonder what these poor people think. There is NO way I can explain that and not sound like a nut to "normals". I even get shocked touching lamps and so forth when no one else does. My children find it hilarious. It does make me wonder what the physiology of that might be. I quit using pill minders quite awhile back. I never miss my pills etc. But lately I take them too early I guess, before I'm fully awake and 1/2 hour later or so I can't remember if I have taken my AEDs. I know I've taken them twice a few times but I am fairly sure I've never not taken them. Maybe it's your handle ya think? Your jazzy handle - lol Gretchen

Like you and others I too have trouble remembering. I have noticed that things I forget about for years can be triggered very easily like the painfull shock you say you get in your temple. I completely forgot about them until reading your blog. I to used to get them and on a regular basis. However, what realy grabbed my attention was the tingling in your feet you mentioned. I too get that more so in my right foot. I've been scared of it because I suffered from DVT in that leg. Sounds like it may be more common than I thought.

Yes Sir I get them too, I used to call them Mind Zaps. I told my previous Neuro it felt like there was a downed electrical wire that was still live and zapping all over the back of my head...of course his response...That is impossible Dayna. Well New Neuro Listened and New Meds....Mind Zaps not so bad, as long as I take my meds... and quit getting the flu....blah. Hope your Day is going Great Ramblinman.
