My boss is so insensitive! I'm reduced to tears.

Hi,

Sorry but I need to vent after a tough day. 

I am a teacher who has been off work for a couple of months following a stereo EEG with depth electrodes and the complication of a brain haemorrhage. (I am a surgery candidate)

As I'm sure you can imagine it has been a really tough and scary time but luckily the haemorrhage has left no long lAsting problems and I am well enough to return to work.

Today was my second day. My boss called me into his office and went on and on about the pay policy. Basically he wants me to take a drop in pay - apparently he's only thinking about me! Yeah right!

He has already decided that as I've had brain surgery I can't do the job I love like I used. I am no different than I was before the surgery but you try telling him that. He obviously wants to give my extra pay to a colleague. He knows I may be off again if temporal lobe resection is offered and this is obviously on his mind re continuity for the kids. 

I left his office in tears. I have never felt so low and as if the work I do is just not up to standard. I work extremely hard and have never let my epilepsy hold me back. It's not easy with my complex partials daily at bad times, weekly at good times. I know employment for epilepsy sufferers can be challenging but I've never experienced prejudice like this before. i can't believe he picked day 2 of my return to have the conversation. How insensitive can you get?! He probably put me on capability proceedings next!! 

Oh also epilepsy is a mental condition according to him! I was fuming but didn't explode at him. Now I wish I had!
