My boss just...

i have been having a horrible time with my memory lately, more now than usual. I could not seem to remember the date (nothing new) so I wrote it on a post it and put on the computer so I wouldn't have to keep asking or looking at the calendar when someone came in. She sat down at my desk and saw where I had another one just like it and started laughing. She said "Girl, you can't even remember the date ? You need to get you some vitamins or something". Just like it was a joke almost. It was already bothering and embarassing me...now I feel worse. What should I do ? Anything?

Was she laughing with you or

Was she laughing with you or at you? People laugh with me all the time and I'm okay with that. When I forget things my co-workers play 20 questions with me but that's fine cause it actually makes it less embarrassing then hiding the fact that I forget things. And then.... There's the people that laugh at me, but I don't care about them.

I was not laughing so I guess she wasn't laughing with me. We had has a conversation about it that morning though. About me forgetting things and being confused alot. I told her my doctor told that I should not worry about it, that I am just "different".(Which confused me more because I didn't know whether that should make me feel better or worse.) I'm just having a hard time, I guess. Thanks for replying.

Hi Wendy. Perhaps she was laughing to try and ease her own discomfort? To make herself conscious of the fact that you are no different than she is? People get very uncomfortable with things they don't understand. I've gotten armchair diagnoses of everything from "Absolutely nothing wrong with you" to "Maybe it's multiple sclerosis or lupus." People either ignore or try to fix problems they don't understand. My first thought when I read that was that she was trying to brush it off and make herself more comfortable with your glitches. It's hard not to take it personally, especially when it is a cause for concern with you. However, I have found that my own ability to laugh at my limitations and forgetfulness makes me more able to deal with the problem. It also helps people around me. Blessings. Stay well. - Mousie
