Mom with seizures and driving issues

Mon, 07/07/2014 - 11:47

Hello everyone. I have been recently diagnosed with Partial Seizures and cannot drive for 6 months. I am looking for ideas and advice on how to get around. We live a large city but in the worst possible area for public transport. The closest trip to a grocery store is an hour and 15 minutes each way. I have two small children, ages 1.5 and 4. I have looked into taxies but you have to provide car seats and I cant carry them with us after we get dropped off. Any one have success with personal drivers? Is there networks of medical helpers that wont cost me a fortune? Personal assistants here run about $80 so that makes it WAAAAAY too expensive.

Can't wait to hear any ideas. Thanks!

I know that it can be hard to

I know that it can be hard to get to and from places. I also know that most public transet services have discounted cards which gives you a discount on rides. They also have services have servises for handicaped where yo ucan set up pick up times and they take you to the store or work and pick you up. If they have those for the blind or people in wheelchairs you should be able to get service. Here where I am a monthly pass is half price and cities should have things like that. So check with your transit service and see what they have that may help you. I know what it is like getting to and from work. I also know that if I move I find a place which is close to a bus line. I hope this helps and you get teh assistance you need. I also hope you get seizure free Joe

Does your city or county have

Does your city or county have a dial-a-ride system? Our city charges less for disabled or seniors. Sometimes I have to wait a few hours or call the day before but they also return for me. It can also take me to my doctor who is in a nearby city as long as I call ahead. It's a mini bus. Maybe this could be suggested to your city. We pay taxes for something.
