Memory problems

Sat, 01/03/2015 - 08:08

I think the one problem I hate that comes along with my epilepsy is my memory problems. I had my first grandmal seizure about 4 years ago and continue to have them about 3-4 times a year. I take 800mg of Lamictal. I can actually deal with the seizures themselves more then I can deal with the side effects. Having so many memory issues has caused so many problems in my life. It goes from not remembering people, not remembering little things like where i just put my keys, to asking the same question twice and worst of all big events in my life. The best thing that's ever happened to me is my birth of my daughter and I don't remember being in labor. My husband is great with my epilepsy and helps when he can but my memory really takes a toll on us. I get accused of not listening or not paying attention to him and I try so hard to explain to him that's simply not the case and I just cant remember. I bartend a couple nights a week at a restaurant I've worked at for years and I offend some people when I don't remember who they are and taking care of them before. I know everyone in my life tries to understand but I know they get fed up with it too. Does anyone else have this big of a problem with their memory as well?

Hi Brooke, I also have the memory problems. I am 30, I have grand mal seizures and simple partial seizures.  I have had seizures for about 8 years now. It started a few months ago.  I can't remember words, I feel like a idiot most of the time when talking to people.  Which is also making my depression and anxiety worse, which I am being treated for.  No one in my family really understand what its like to just completely lose a word or memory.  People laugh at me because they think I'm joking.  I got in trouble at work for a situation I can't even remember.  I understand what it's like, so far it's the hardest part of the whole thing to deal with.
