memory problems

Sat, 07/15/2006 - 19:51
Hi all: Before being diagnosed with ep, I had a minor memory problem. Since then It has gotten increasingly worse. Now it's to the point I can't remember business transactions when asked about them a day later. I'm taking my meds regularly and some ginko to hopefully help the problem. It's not so far. Any comments, ideas, suggestions or anything??? Neuro says it could be caused by the seizures or the meds. Memory testing done by neuropsychologist revealed a true deficit mostly coming from not grasping information as soon as it is presented. (poor focus)... I was diagnosed A.D.H.D. as an adult 13 yrs ago. neuro says those meds exacerbate seizures.Don't take em he says. help....Memory problems weren't as noticable as a scaffold builder. Since I moved into the material dispatching office memory has become mandatory and I can't seem to do anything but attempt to make accomodations for my lack in this area.

I am having a hard time with my memory too. I am working now as Deputy City Clerk for my town. It is crutial to be able to remember almost everything you do. I deal with accounts payable and receivable, property taxes, grants for the city, you name it, I do it. It is to the point now that I am afraid I am going to lose my job. You are not alone. I don't know how to help you except to tell you that you are not alone. I will keep you in my thoughts. Hugs to you. If you need to email me, plese do. My email is Randyslove@hotmail.com

I understand how you both feel. My memory can be pretty poor (particularly verbal memory)- also because I don't always catch everything as quickly as it's presented but even when i do I frequently forget the details seconds to minutes later. Very frustrating when it comes to work. Memory loss can be caused by meds and seizures (as well as the surgery). It sucks, but I haven't been able to figure out anything to make it better. I write everything down (and then sometimes forget that I have, or even what my writing is about). Let's just say employers aren't real enthusiastic about having someone with memory deficiencies on their staff. It's made employment rather difficult for me. If you figure out anything that works, let me know. stef

Finally ...my memory has been deteriorating as well. I was already let go after having had my first grand mal seizures (2) in March. I was due to return back to work as a Project Manager for a Technology Firm from maternity leave in March but the week that I came home from the hospital following my second episode, my boss wanted me to to committ to transitioning back and I barely knew which end was up. I had never had seizures before and the whole scenario totally uprooted my life at that time. But the seizures and medication have seriously taken a toll on my memory. My fiancee' and I were just talking about something today that I couldn't recall but I didn't let on which I find myself doing alot these days but I honestly have no recollection of alot of things as of late. I have even run into people and had folks mentioned and I have no clue who they are. I asked my Neurologist about it at my last appt. and he more or less brushed it off as just part of what comes w/ this whole "thing". I can't remember ANYTHING not even if I take my medication sometimes. Antother member of this forum has the same problem. I take medication 3 x a day and there are times when I absolutely cannot remember if I just took a pill in addition to being told something one day and the next day not having a clue. I drive my fiancee' crazy w/ this. I am currently pursuing employment opportunities and I am seriously concerned about my ability to be effective and perform my job whatever that may be. I actually had a meeting a couple of weeks ago regarding a potential opp. All was well but as I was speaking, I actually lost my train of thought in the midst of talking. I NEVER DO THAT. I have always been hailed as being very sharp and attentive and detail oriented. You have to be as a PM. Now I am wondering. My Neurologist has actually approved me to be out of work until next year but I don't know if we can afford it or if I even want to. I have recently started looking into disability but who knows. And then there is the issue of transportation.
