Medication side effects

Thu, 04/30/2015 - 20:36

Hello.  I'm switching over to Lamotrigine XR from Carbamazepine.  This will be my third medication since having seizures.  I'm so tired of taking these things, literally.  It SUCKS.  I always feel tired.  When I wake up, even after getting good sleep, I want to roll over to get more sleep, but can't.  Ugh.  I feel like I'm waking up with a hangover.  I'm sure that some of you feel the same way.  If I could make a deal with the devil, I'd offer to sacrifice a few toes by cutting them off with a dull electric wire cable cutter than have to deal with continuing to take all of these medications twice a day, on a daily basis.

I know that the Keppra can cause mood issues, from personal experience.  Same thing with Carbamazepine.  Are any of you guys (and gals) taking Lamotrigine, and if so, how do you all feel in comparison to when you take the other medications?  Does it give you a little more energy?

I read the information booklet, and it noted that this drug is better in the sense that it gives you more stimulation, or is less sedating.  Do you agree?

Lastly, I read somewhere that the long term effects of this medication are still unknown.  So, are we being used as GUINEA PIGS?  I think that I read this fact on this website.
