Marijuana helps epilepsy.

Thu, 11/13/2014 - 21:44

I've had epilepsy since I was 15 and when I was in college my seizures progressively getting worse and stress was becoming a main factor. I take Keppra 750 mg 2x a day to help, but even that wasn't a guarantee that I wouldn't have one. I experimented with marijuana to see if it could potentailly help my epilepsy. Not only did it help with my epilepsy, but I have been seizure-free for 3 years. Unfortunately, my roommate did not see it that way as a medicine and had me arrested unfortunately for something I use to help cope with my seizures. I do not know what to do and I'm planning to move to another state such as Colorado or a state I can get it for medincinal use. Is it wrong for me to use a drug that has proven to help contain seizures even though half of the United States considers it illegal. I don't use marijuana to get high like many people, but really to calm the activity in my brain so seizures will not occur. Has anyone been a similar situation?

What works for one may not

What works for one may not work for the next person. Epilepsy is caused by an electrical impulse going off wrong in the brain. MJ basically calms down the central nervious system which and the brain is the major part of. With you it helps. With me it did little.  As for keppra I have been using it for many years. Dosages at times need to be raised or lowered. Too muck medication is just as bad as too little. As for the dosage you are on it is about mid range. Mid range is too low of an ammount for me. I take the max the company wants anyone to be on. The seizures I have are few and the time in those seizures is less than the time I was in them 12 years ago. A seizure back then was 5-7 minutes long and the time to focus (get back to normal) was an additional 15-45 minutes. Now those same seizures are 2-8 seconds and the focus time is 5-15 seconds. I went 3 years without any kind of seizure so I do know what it is like to have one while studying for a drivers test.As for right or wrong I can not say. Federal laws are there but some states do not look at them. Generally federal laws override a state law. You have to make you decission which works for you. This foundation is tryingto get medical MJ allowed throgh the feds. I hope you stay seizure free
