Lyrica???

Fri, 01/05/2007 - 18:31
Any quick feedback on this med. I read some of the other threads, but thought I would start a new one. I am "supposed" to start it tonight, no rush I am on Tegretol and Keppra too, and the other threads sounded pretty bad: anxiety, depression, weight gain.... Any new feed back would be great. As of right now I may call my doctor on Monday and say I don't want to go down Lyrica Avenue... Thank you, David

Hi David, Here is some info on Lyrica: intro: http://www.epilepsy.com/medications/i_lyrica_intro.html common side effects: http://www.epilepsy.com/medications/i_lyrica_side.html serious side effects: http://www.epilepsy.com/medications/i_lyrica_most.html Bottom line: Lyrica hasn't been out long enough (just launched in 2005) so little info on use exists yet. Patent Information on Lyrica http://www.pfizer.com/pfizer/download/ppi_lyrica.pdf David, I've been on meds almost my entire life and have never been put on more than 2 AEDs at a time. Even www.epilepsy.com talks of single med therapy as 'ideal' as the source of any negative reaction is easy to find. Side effects of your current meds: Tegretol side effect info.. (I'm also on it) http://www.epilepsy.com/medications/b_tegretol_side.html http://www.epilepsy.com/medications/b_tegretol_serious.html Keppra side effect info (a drug approved in 1999) http://www.epilepsy.com/medications/b_keppra_side.html http://www.epilepsy.com/medications/b_keppra_serious.html Btw.. Tegretol (carbamazepine) is also known to cause osteoporosis in some people so be sure to take your max amount vitamin D and Calcium daily. It is also known to cause tinnutus in some people. hope that info helps & best of luck, ~sol
