Long Recovery Time

Tue, 04/05/2016 - 13:20
Hi, I'm new here but I got diagnosed with epilepsy when I was young, and I am now 30. I consider myself to be lucky as far as epilepsy goes because while I have grand mal seizures, I don't have them too often. I haven't had one in maybe 2 years up until January while I was recovering from surgery. It was the first time my wife witnessed me having one and she panicked and still cries when talking about it. All of my worst moments are triggered usually first thing in the morning when I am trying to get up for work. If I jump out of bed too fast without fully waking up I can definitely feel like something is coming, or sometimes I have these mini black out/jerking things that last for less than a second every time. It's pretty predictable and doesn't happen every day but since I had my most recent seizure in January, mornings have been unusually tough. It is almost like my brain doesn't want to function fully for hours, I'm foggy and just the overall aura I feel is noticeably worse. Is it normal to feel this way this long after a bad seizure? Like I said, I've had these before but never to this degree. It was a really bad one and my doctors just increased my dosage of lamictal up to 450 a day right after it happened. Just over 2 months and I still don't feel right. Sorry for the long read just need to know if this is normal or not.

Too much medication is just

Too much medication is just as bad as too little contact your neurologist and see if the dosages can be lowered some. All the increases I have done have always been small increases. That way there is no over usage and the medication increase can be looked at closer. It is easier to add a little more then decreasing it. Also be sure to take your meds correctly. If 2 times a day those times need to be 12 hours apart. That way you keep break through seizures from happening. I also know that illnesses of any kind can affect your medication because your body if fighting the illness even if it is surgery
