Living Alone

Hey all... I was recently diagnosed. My mom and or friends have been living with me since my release from the hospital five months ago. However, we can't keep this up. I live alone usually and miss it. Can anyone tell me their experience as they transitioned from totally healthy and independent to not so healthy and sort of independent? My first seizure was a tonic clonic followed by uncontrolled complex partials that put be in the hospital and on a respirator for 22 days. Since then I've had three tonic clonics and many complex and simple seizures but non clustered as the first time. I am grateful that I don't have brain damage. I have lost my memory of the past two years and the rest of my life is a little fuzzy to say the least. My neurologist says i should retrieve everything in the next year. We are currently playing with medication combinations. My thought is to keep some one around until I find a stable med cocktail and then live alone again. Actually, it's not just a thought it's what I'm going to do. I'd love to hear from anyone who has/had a similar experience.

hi utah, i started having sz in july 2005 whilst i was on a mountain walking trip abroad, then i went off to university, sure living in halls is not like living alone but it is close enough, however after 3 months of uni the lecturers gave me the boot due to me missing too many lectures as i was in and out of hospital all of the time, so i had to move back into home with my mum...millions and trillions of hospital trips later some of these like you into intensive care and on a respirator i am stilol living with my mum, however i am hoping to move out soon into supported living accomodation-where someone is on call 5 days a week and it is a shared house..independant with a safety net. i am no way controlled, my dr took my meds away about 2 months ago saying i dont have epilepsy, but i have tonic clonics on a weekly basis now (since the removal of meds) and myoclonics nearly daily. emily

Emily! That's crazy you need a new doctor!! He's a fruit cake. I am so sorry to hear about your situation, sounds much worse than mine. You must be devastated that you can't continue your time at the university. HOpefully you'll find another education avenue that works for you. Please find another doctor! All the best, Chris aka Utah
