Little Known Info about Partial Complex Seizures

well i now know that neuros and epi spec dont know everything, after my big scare around 2am or what ever it was i dont know really. i had a partial complex when i went to get a migraine pill and then when my hubby went to look for me i colasped nto his arms. he laid me on the floor and i wasnt breathing and my hubby woke my youngest son who knew cpr. he couldnt find a pulse, and did cpr and i started coughing ,then i would stop breathing and he blow in my mouth and and i cough again,so by the time the emt were ther i was i just stopped breathing a few more times and then they took me to the hospital. this is what i was told, i woke up as they were unloading me at the hospital, very confused. of course they checked with my neuro who said it wasnt a neuro problem, and they checked with another neuro at there main hospital in town and he said not a neuro problem. admited, about 8 am internist came by talked to me said neuro problem. sent home that evening. talked to cardio doc on call on sat said need to come in on monday and see cardio doc i went into the cardio doc's, had a ekg. was ok. my blood work from 3 weeks ago was good, the ecko of my heart from 3 weeks ago shows no change in the leaky valve. he also said we have got to get my seizures controled better and was concerned that i was seeing a neuro that was working hard on controling them, i said yes, he was a epi spec that works on uncontrolable seizures. he said well he needs to work harder, after all the seizures you had here when you were in for your stress test, and now this. he said he was very concerned. now for the surprizing info, my cardio doc told me that at the end of a partial complex seizure, it is not uncommon for patients to stop breathing. he was saying that the best thing to do is lay the person down and wait for them to start to breath again, in most cases people will begin to breathe within a minute. if it goes past, then blow air in the mouth and check for breathing. repeat until breathing. if cant get breathing started call 911. and continue breathing into mouth. he said that the pulse was there but to weak to feel. this is all news to me, so i looked it up on th internet and found a small amount of info about this very thing. it seems it is not something they want us to know, i found the most info on a page on pediatrics and partial complex seizures and the importance of having oxygen available. well i found a small piece on adults too, stopping breathing with partial complex seizures. idecided to post this under adult issues as well since it is an adult issue that there is little info written about it, its mostly all pediatric, but my cardiologist said it is not uncommon in adults who suffer from partial complexes that are not controled. i hope everyone passes this info on. banffgirl

i dont know if this makes it more likely, but i was having a visual complex partial where i saw see thru like fine fabric flying around me. very strange, i usually get auditory, very rarely visual. maybe my brain triggered that the fabric was smothering me since it is a brain trigger that stops the breathing anyways. so it being a weird visual might have made it worse banffgirl

I have visual complex partials and I stop breathing every time, so I believe what your cardio doc told you. My neuro never said anything to me about this being common in seizures, but I am going to see a new one on Monday and I will ask him, I am curious now. I always wake up with an awful headache because I had stopped breathing for so long.
