The Life of an Epileptic

Thu, 10/15/2015 - 22:04

 Hey everyone,

My name is Austin but I go by AJ and I am 22 years old .I'm going to give you a little backstory. I was a sick baby. When my mother gave birth, there were a lot of other sick babies who were dying but luckily I was one of the few who didn't get sicker but got healthier and stronger. I lost one of my kidneys because it stopped growing. I believe I had seizures when I was sick as well but not 100% sure.

When I got to high school, I had my first seizure. High school was a bit rough for me. I was unable to do some of the things I wanted to do because of epilepsy. I couldn't drive and couldn't play my favorite sport, basketball. My mom would rather I not play because she felt it would add on more stress which stress and lack of sleep is one of my triggers. So I decided not to play any sports. I also couldn't play football because I only have one kidney so that was a no go.

Fast forward to college, I went to college without my license and it just felt weird. Not being able to drive wasn't a big deal for me. I seemed to make it work. I joined a fraternity and my frat brothers supported me. I was able to get around because of my friends and frat brothers. But I always get that thought that they're probably thinking "I'm tired of driving him around." I was able to make some good friends and overall college was a ncie experience. But after I graduated, I've been getting a lot of "What ifs"..What if I had my license, what if I wasn't an epileptic , what if I had both my kidneys.. I really wish I could drive.. I don't even try to get in serious relationships with women because I just don't see why a woman would want to be with me if I can't drive. I am a great guy. I have a great head on my soulders with hopes and dreams of becoming a Collegiate Athletic Director.  I wouldn't want a woman to have to chauffer me around. Especially when the man is the one who trpically drives.

I would love to meet the woman of my dreams but it just seems harder for me because of my inability to drive. I would like some advice on how to handle this situation I'm in. If anyone has been in something similar I would love to hear your story. Women, would you date someone who couldn't drive? If you are dating someone who can't drive, what is it like?
