lesions or "white spots" on mri

Thu, 05/17/2007 - 16:11
Does anyone have lesions or "white spots" on their mri? I was in a car accident where my head hit the windshield, the mri showed these spots. The doctors say they are most likely due to the head trauma. I've had three seizures, all at night when I was about to fall deep asleep. What are these white spots or lesions? Is this scar tissue and can these be causing the seizures? I also have this "spacey" feeling in my head. I'm not on meds right now. Feel free to email me also at kay1931@hotmail.com I'm hoping to get some advice. Thanks.

Hey, I have had epilepsy since I was a little kid. I was also in a car accident when I was 6 yrs. Whether I started having seizures before the accident or after the accident I can't remember. I've also had a couple of MRIs which shows a white looking spot. My neuro says it's scar tissue, but she doesn't think that it is causing my E. Keep in mind the word "think". She admits she can't know for sure and that I'll probably never know. If I forget to take my meds or don't at all I have a "spacey" feeling. You definitly want to discuss further with your doctor.

It seems like the white spots could be scar tissue. It takes the brain a while to heal, which is why your doctors are waiting to put you on medication. Seizures can be due to a lot of reasons, one of them trauma. Whether it goes away or not, only time can tell. These "spacey" feelings you have may be aura's or even simple partial seizures. I think you need to talk to your doctor sooner than later, and let them know about these feelings. Have you had an EEG yet? If not, demand one. It's easy and only takes about an hour. If you have any questions, let me know. Jen

Hi Jen, I've had two EEG's. First one came out normal, I'm still waiting results of the second one. I've read a recently that scar tissue can cause seizures. I've not experienced anything like this before. I had one nocturnal seizure about three weeks after the accident then two more in the same night about two months later. None since then, but I have a spacey feeling in my head most times. I think this is from the concussion from the car accident which caused the head trauma. The accident was last December. I think I had seven ct's which the docs said there was nothing abnormal on then they did an mri in which something was injected into my arm first and that showed white spots or lesions. Two Neuros said that was most likely due to the head trauma.
