killing brain cells

When you have a seizure does it kill brain cells? I saw my primary care doctor last week and he mentioned something about seizures killing brain cells every time you have one. Does anyone know if this is true or not?

Hi peaches.. "The evidence suggests that these seizures do have a negative effect and possibly result in loss of specific brain cells. However, the evidence also indicates that this is not true for all forms of epilepsy." http://www.epilepsy.com/articles/ar_1064856376.html "For most people—especially those who don't have very many seizures—epilepsy Epilepsy does not cause any serious problems with their thinking" http://www.epilepsy.com/epilepsy/thinking_seizuresthinking.html "An excellent place to find diagrams and information about the brain is at the website Neuroscience for Kids—http://faculty.washington.edu/chudler/neurok.html—good for all ages!" ~sol
