Keppra & Headaches...& a little more

Sun, 09/09/2007 - 00:54
After trying several medicines I was put on Keppra (750 mg twice a day). Works to control the seizures but the headaches are AWFUL. I also have been told that the old me is gone and has been replace with something horrible. My dr. changed the dosage to 500mg in the am and kept the 750 at night, helped for a while but the headaches are creeping through slowly. Dr. mentioned changing to Topamax if headaches aren't better at next visit (3 weeks away), anyone have info. about that med.? How about Todd's paralysis? Anyone familiar with that being related to seizures? Sorry so many questions all at once. It took me a while to accept I had epilepsy, and even longer to convince myself into seeking help on-line. There is only so much you can get from a dr. who does not live with epilepsy. So now I'm here, ready to learn from others experiencing the samething. Thanks in advance.

I was on keppra for a while and had to go off. Here is my experience: 1. Had constant light headaches that did go away -- I forget how long it took or dosage. 2. Here was the killer for me. This drug has a nickname, Kepprage. I got grumpy and mean. I was very very irritated about everything without connecting Keppra with the problem. This adverse reaction apparently only happens to a small %. There you go, I went to a med library and looked up the side affects and it hit me -- get off Keppra. My Doc took it serious and I was off and better. Todd's Paralysis is a postictal thing. It is a weakening of the limbs (limb, hand...) -- look up "Postictal paresis" PP on this site or Google it. I have never had it and I am not a Doc but have had some serious strange days that I have researched. Topamax has the same old batch of issues. It can cause dizziness, memory issues, fatigue..... in N %. You + Docs + ? need to figure out some unique cocktail. The "figuring out" scks for me. Plus effectiveness and reactions changed over time.
