Keppra and grapefruit juice

Tue, 04/01/2014 - 20:21
Anyone know if grapefruit affects Keppra levels? When I was on Tegretol, I was advised not to eat grapefruit for many years. The Keppra label has no mention of grapefruit at all. Would love to incorporate it back into my diet, but only if it's safe.

Ihave been using Keppra for many years .I eat almost anything I want including ruby red grapefruit. I have not seen any material regarding food and keppra. If you have a question and you have a good relationship with your neurologist call his office. They can answer your questions without a office visit. I hope this helps Joe

Thanks Joe...this is good news! I scoured the internet and can't find anything either. Been meaning to ask my neuro, but keep forgetting when I'm there. My doctors office has a new online portal I've been wanting to check out. Think I'll send him an email!

Asking the pharmacist is another source of assistance about medications; after all, dealing with medications is their profession! I have learned details of medications (eg. side effects, proper way to take them, etc.) that neurologists have not mentioned to me.
