Juvenile myoclonic epilepsy

Sat, 01/28/2017 - 19:38
Hello my name is Sean and I have been living with JME for just over 6 months now. I have had 4 grand mal seizures all happening within those 6 or so months, but I have had myoclonic jerks for the past 2 years or so. My first two seizures happened inside my house and nobody witnessed them and I thought I had just passed out after waking up. I did go into the emergency room after my second one, they didn't find anything but they referred me to a neurologist who did an eeg and found out I had epilepsy. I started taking keppra about 4-5 months ago and I have had 2 grand mal seizures while being on the medication, but I have had no noticeable myoclonic jerks since I started taking it. My first seizure on the medication I had happened after missing a dose of the medication that day as I was still getting used to. taking it. It happened at my girlfriends house while I was showering and was the first seizure anyone had witnessed. I started keppra taking only 2000mg and now I am up to 3500mg after my other 2 seizures on the medication. My second seizure while on the medication happened about 2-3 weeks ago and it happened while I was working out at the gym. This was the first seizure I have ever had that I cannot really connect the dots or figure out why it happened. I do not receive any auras before any of my seizures and I am still trying to understand my triggers. I had been going to the gym about 3-4 times a week for a consistent period of time and now I am afraid to go back because of what happened. The people at the gym were very friendly and understanding for the most part but it did happen at a busy time so I am afraid of what people will think of me. But I am more afraid of having another seizure at the gym and injuring or hurting myself. I really wanna stay in shape but I don't know what to do at this point. I would appreciate any advice or tips from people with more experience or even stories as well. Thanks
