Just had first EEG

Tue, 10/06/2015 - 08:40

Hey everyone , I have been having problems with de ja vu feelings along with vivid flashbacks and losing awareness along with dizziness and short term memory loss (forgetting what year it is some  moments or my house number the next), It's an awful feeling i get multiple times a day that only last a couple minutes then ill be free of them for over a month till they come back again.

So I was referred to a neurologist , my MRI came back normal and I have just have a EEG /Video EEG. My friend who came with me said I was fine till i had to do the deep breathing for 3 minutes , then my left thumb stiffened and was moving along with my left leg moving up and down, I didn't feel this at the time or  notice i was doing anything other than breathing, Then when it came to the flashing lights my right side of my body was jerking and my head tilted back slightly, again i didn't notice i was doing any of this i was just focusing on waiting for the person running the test to tell me my next instruction.

Is this normal to happen during a EEG or is this a sign i was having possible abnormal brain signals that they will hopefully of picked up?

Many different things can

Many different things can happen during an EEG. Each part of it is testing different areas of your brain. The lights are testing to see if you are photosensitive to sudden light changes. For some people flashing lights or the change when outside ad the sun changes by the leaf moving in and out of view can be enough to cause someone to have a seizure.. With the video EEG they can look at both the video and the EEG and compare them and it gives them more to work with. All a EEG does is capture the electrical impulses going off wrong in the brain. A seizure is "An electrical impulse going off wrong causing chain reaction..  is this a sign i was having possible abnormal brain signals that they will hopefully of picked up? The MRI was done so they can look closer in the areas the abnormalities came from to see if there is ANYTHING there that is different. It could be a cell that grew wrong, It could be something that grew different. For me it was scared brain tissue from a blow to my head causing me to black out. Many or the things you posted could be parts of different seizures.I hope this helps. If you like this neurologist ten keep a good relationship with him and you can get better care. Many issues can be answered in a phone call. At every visit I had with Doc I knew he would be asking questions, For every question he had I had at least 1-2 for him. Doc Did you have any seizures and if you did which type were they? Yes I had some focal seizures will this medication control them better? How many seizures did you have. I handed him a list of my seizures which had each seizure type and length of time in it and the time it too to get back to normal. Doc you can see the number of seizures has been reduced but will this medication reduce them farther. Will the post ictal (time to get back to normal) time be reduced any? Are there other medications that can control my seizures better? Or What other medication can be coupled with this one to get a better outcome? What procedures are out there that might help me?Bu asking questions Doc knew I wanted results. IF I just went in and answered his questions then he would think things are fine so lets keep on keeping on.I hope this helpsJoe
