I have so many questions

Is there a diet for seizures (that can help them)? I hear of so many bad reactions to the meds. Why take them? How is it safe when on these meds that could have such bad side effects? Do the meds take away all the seizures? Are everyones seizures different? Can you still work? ow many meds did they have try out before finding the right one and how did you do, knowing it could cause side effects (when I was 13 they had to try and a med. for me and I don't remember it but they said one of the meds had me freaking out on the sofa, that I was crouching there looking terrifyed as I started at the carpet. When asked what was wrong I was saying that there were little green men running through the grass (the carpet that I was seeing as grass). They finally put me on dilantin. But at 15 the foster care system stopped giving me my meds and I haven't been on them since. I am now 30 yrs old and realize I have been experiencing seizures (absence and atonic seizures) for the past 17yrs since being suddenly taken off the meds. But now I have a life, a job, 3 children... How do I experiment with new drugs with all these responsibilities. I'd hate to have an adverse reaction while watching the children or at work. I am afraid to go to the dr. because accepting this is for some reason extremely hard for me. I just have so many questions so I might ask more later.

Hi Christy, there are 3 diets that have been studied scientifically with strong results for efficacy - ketogenic, modified atkins, low glycemic index treatment (LGIT). There is another that is just starting to get studied (GARD/GFCF). You can read more about them and other alternatives to prescription drugs in the chart linked below. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Check out my chart of alternative epilepsy treatments.
