How many seizures? Should I worrry so much?

Wed, 02/07/2007 - 14:49
Over the past 20 years I have had about 5 TC seizure. I had a seizure last week which is the 1st in about 7 years. I have been on 300mg of Dialantin since 1999 but it was determined my serum levels were very low. I figure that I am fairly lucky since I dont have seizures that often. My problem is that I am starting to worry a lot about when and where my next one will be, if ever. Do you think that I have to worry so much? Thx Chris W

Hi Chris, I hear you. I've had two in about seven months (my first) and I worry a lot about the next one. What I've found consoling are attitudes like Andy M who just posted another response, and I'll quote him here: "I would be foolish to think that I would never have another seizure ever, because basically you never know what's round the corner but I don't let that thought hang over me I just get out there and live life to the full." In my eight years of driving, I've been involved in five car accidents (thousands of dollars of damage to car; was my fault three times). I could spend time worrying about when the next one would happen, but what'd be the point. Seizures are different since I personally am trying to figure out what happened, but we know so little about the brain and seizure causes that it might as well be as random as car accidents. It seems in your case, you've been given a warning about dilantin levels and you should probably have it checked regularly. --Ram

I worry a lot too. In the past 9 months. Id say ive had around 400 seizures. I have Complex Partial and was just diagnosed. I don't respond to my medicines. I have bad alergies and I can't take certain ones. My main worry is memory loss down the road. Ive been seizure free for 4 weeks and one day with a new diet im on and 4000 mg of Keppra a day. Hopefully Ill remain seizure free...this is the longest its been.
