How many people stop breathing when they have a seizure?

Wed, 09/19/2007 - 09:16
I'm just curious. How many of you stop breathing while having a seizure? I have had 3 gran mals and I stopped breathing on one of them. That was the hardest one to recover from. In fact, it took me almost 10 days to get my strength back. I have never been so exhausted in all my life. Seriously, if I got up to go to the restroom, afterwards, I would collapse on the couch and sleep for hours. On the emotional side, it is very scary. Probably, for me anyways, the scariest of it all. What if you don't re-start? Let's face it, we're unconscious, we don't know what is happening. We don't feel anything at the time. It isn't a fear of physical death, we wouldn't even know if we didn't wake up, it the fear of leaving those you love that terrifies me. I'm just wondering how many of you have had to face your own mortality and wonder if it will happen again? Wow, as I re-read this I'm not trying to bring up a downer of a question, but just wanted to put this out there to see how many others deal with this part of seizures as well. Best thoughts and prayers to all of you, ~ Believe

Hi there...since December last year i started having seizures.. the first one they had to do cpr on me on the way to the hospital and at the hosptial. The second time was on the way to hospital. Since then i have had two more and i keep landing up in icu on very strong medication and close monitoring. It is very sad for me to see the trauma my 17 year old daughter is going through and my husband. Luckily each time so far i have had a friend around that has known cpr. You always think about what happens in a shop alone or when you are alone and the fact that your children still need their mom. Does anyone know of a support group i would really love to talk to others who go through this same thing.Regards to allDebby d

I had a seizure about 23

I had a seizure about 23 years ago since at that time they told me blood sugar bottomed. The next seizure about a year and half later same diagnosis.  Never had anymore until 6 years ago and they diagnosed me with epilepsy.  I pretty much know when they are going to happen and can sit down.  In July of this year 2017 I had another one while in bed and my fiancee had to do cpr on me the ambulance came and I proceeded to quit breathing they airlifted me to the hospital and put me on anti seizure meds. Granted I'm only 56 and it has been 2.5 years since my last seizure and this 1 and I was not on any meds until now. I dont how they diagnose ppl with epilepsy when you dont have seizures very often.
